Photographed these beauties yesterday in my backyard.
Apparently, so did photographers William and Frederick Langenheim on May 26, 1854. They produced the first photographs of a solar eclipse. Check out the article written by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Botanical gardens, natural history museums, historic houses and art museums make my heart happy. Do you remember that childhood feeling of excitement and wonderment as you were handed your admission ticket? Do you remember placing the round metal button on your collar, knowing that meant you could go into any gallery. For me, that feeling will never go away as I enter a museum or cultural institution.
This summer you may be touring your local art museum, trekking around a botanical garden or braving the heat at the zoo. If so, make sure you stop in the museum store on your way out. These shops stock the best products with items that are uniquely curated to the particular institution. Your purchase directly supports the mission and programming of the institution...passing along that feeling of wonderment to future generations.
so many precious little things out there to gather...
what will you find?
Yes, please! There are absolutely no rules when it comes to mixing, matching and layering jewelry. Gold, silver, bronze, copper...put it all together. Try to layer rose gold and silver bangles together. You could also mix up an oxidized silver piece with a shiny one. Here at VIELÄ Jewelry, we are all about mixing textures, shapes and colors. Shown here is our cutest Mandalee Bronze Necklace paired with Felicity Necklace. Whatever feels right...go with it!
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all of the staff, volunteers, board members, speakers, vendor members and museum members that worked so hard to make the Museum Store Association Conference a success. I am honored to have met so many new friends and I know we all thoroughly enjoyed our time in Pittsburgh. See you next year in DC!
...working in my studio, the sleet is pelting the windows making sounds like small pops of firecrackers. It's the perfect day to think about spring, growth, warmth and sunshine. Over the years, I have found that the cool grey tones of sterling silver subtly reflect and capture the textures of my botanicals. For this spring season, I have moved in a new direction, adding warmth and variety into the collections. I am excited to debut my new designs in both the Walking Trail and Endless Ocean Collections, crafted of golden bronze and accented with sterling silver. For a small sampling of the new work, please take a look at Sunburst Earrings, Woodlands Earrings, Tangled Hearts Earrings. All of these new pieces seamlessly work together so you can mix and match with your own jewelry or layer with other VIELÄ collections.
Many of you are in the midst of your holiday shopping...spending hours searching the internet for the perfect gift or braving the crowds at your local mall or favorite local boutique. As you are making your purchases this season, I hope that you will consider shopping at a museum store. I visit museum stores across the country and can assure you that the buyers place great care in the selection of the items in their store. These shops are FULL of interesting and unique items that will add interest and quality to your gift giving. In addition to procuring some terrific merchandise, your purchase directly supports a museum's operations, educational and cultural programming. In our turbulent world, it is vital to support the institutions that preserve the history, arts, science and culture of our society. Happy shopping!
Gloria Steinam recently wrote in a New York Times T Magazine article that Michelle Obama "has always been a woman who knows the difference between fashion (what outside forces tell you to wear) and style (the way you express a unique self)". Let's put our political differences aside and take a look at some stunning fashion, style and on-point accessories from our distinguished First Lady in this Huffington Post article.
P.S. I'm still drooling over the Roberto Coin earrings...
